Garrett loves creating beautiful software and promoting healthy living. He leads the design and development of PumpUp, is completing his Computer Science degree from the University of Waterloo, and held development positions at TribeHR and RIM. In his spare time, Garrett enjoys playing guitar, working out, and holding Gangnam Style dance-offs.
Phil loves building brands that improve the lives of people everywhere. He leads the biz dev, marketing, and external relations at PumpUp. Phil holds a BBA degree from Wilfrid Laurier University and held brand management positions at Unilever, PepsiCo, and ConAgra Foods. In his spare time, Phil enjoys intellectual debates, keeping on top of the latest in tech, and nerf gun battles.
As a trainer on the Laurier Golden Hawks Football team, Jonathan has extensive fitness knowledge through his experience working with some of Canada's top University athletes. He's currently a Kinesiology and Physical Education student at Wilfrid Laurier University. If he's not in the gym, he's shooting pucks on the rink.
Zach is a certified Kinesiologist and Exercise Physiologist who has worked with athletes in the CIS, OHL, NHL (including Stanley Cup Champions), CFL, NFL, CSL, CUFLA, Boston Marathon, Ironman, Triathlon World Championships, World Police and Fire Games, Olympics, Paralympics and Namibia Ultramarathon. Zach is a faculty member in the Kinesiology Department at Wilfrid Laurier University where he teaches Advanced Exercise Assessment, Advanced Exercise Training Methods and Nutrition for Health and Human Performance. He is driven to enable athletes to achieve personal best performances and regularly coaches age group athletes in various disciplines across Ontario.
Ted Hastings is the CEO of Rebellion Media, a leading digital media company. Previously, Ted served as President of Cyberplex, an online publishing and acquisition company. Ted was the President and CEO of Tsavo Media for three years prior to its sale to Cyberplex for US $75 million. Ted joined Tsavo in October 2007 from Geosign, where he served as President and closed Canada’s largest private equity financing in 2007 of US $160 million. Prior to Geosign, Ted was CEO of GBG, a software company where he closed the acquisition of nine direct competitors and ultimately the sale of GBG to 3M Corporation. Ted graduated from Wilfrid Laurier University with a Bachelors of Business Administration and also holds his CA and CPA designations. Ted was named to Canada’s Top 40 Under 40 in 2009.
Mike Kirkup is the Director for the VeloCity program at the University of Waterloo, which is responsible for managing the entrepreneurship and innovation programs for students and alumni. Prior to VeloCity, Mike spent 10 years at RIM where he was responsible for leading the Global Developer Relations program worldwide. As part of that role, he mentored hundreds of global startups focused on mobile applications. Mike holds a Masters of Management Science and a Bachelor of Mathematics from the University of Waterloo.
Shyam Sheth is an Entrepreneur-in-Residence (EiR) at Communitech, a technology accelerator supporting innovation and entrepreneurship in Southern Ontario. Shyam provides mentorship to early and mid-stage startups helping them grow to the next level. Prior to joining Communitech, Shyam has designed telco-grade solutions at Redknee, built an R&D centre in India, launched the HTML5 version of Gmail for mobile while working at Google, and most recently was a co-founder at Fixmo. Shyam holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Systems Design Engineering from the University of Waterloo.
Steve guides sales and marketing organizations in both small start-ups and large technology companies like IBM, SAP, Microsoft, CGI, and Oracle. Steve recently worked as VP Sales & Marketing for Ryerson Start-up, Speechbobble, and for Microsoft ISV Secure Vantage Technologies. Steve speaks about entrepreneurship, business start-ups, and sales & marketing at national gatherings and judges business plan competitions. Steve earned his Honours Bachelor of Mathematics, Computer Science and Business at UW and currently represents Math Alumni on the University’s Alumni Council.
In addition to his other Q responsibilities, Alan is the CLO (that’d be Chief Learning Officer), and he’s always seeking out new means of engaging with people, learning and teaching. He teaches Marketing Communications to 4th year and MBA classes at the Wilfrid Laurier University School of Business and Marketing Strategy in the Executive MBA program for the University of Windsor. Prior to QIC, Alan spent 5 years in marketing with the Canada Trust head office. Alan has also been a director of the Institute of Canadian Advertising and is a past president of the Trans Canada Advertising Agency Network.
